Truing Mavic Crossrides

I know how to true standard 32 or 36 spoke wheels but this 24 blade spoke, straight pull wheel seems to be a different dynamic. I tried truing it like old style wheels but the results were less than ideal. I kept turning spokes to true it and it seemed like nothing was happening until all of a sudden a spoke would "sproing" and the rim would pull over. I got the wheel fairly round and true side to side but some of the spokes are too tight, there is uneven spoke tension and the wheel makes a clanking noise when I accelerate or go up a hill.

What does one need to keep in mind when truing this type of wheel? Is it a different technique? How tight should the spokes be? What about the angle of the bladed spokes? Could a spoke at an angle that be what's making the noise?

Thanx in advance for any advice.

Mavic Crossrides use bladed spokes and self-locking nipples. You need to prevent the spoke from twisting when you turn a nipple by using a slotted tool of some sort to hold the flat portion of the spoke in place. Mavic actually makes a plastic disc-shaped tool for this purpose. You should be able to buy it through any Mavic dealer.
