BB Creak?
At least i think it's coming from the bottom bracket. whenever i crank the pedals on my mountain bike and put a lot of force down, a creaking noise sometimes happens. it's noticeable, but not horrible. i can't feel any play in the bike, nothing wobbling, bike feels okay. absolutely no noise is made during regular pedalling, only when putting down the power.
i think it's from the crankset, not the pedals, chain, or anything near the back.
I think i'm running RaceFace XC cranks on my SC Chameleon (eccentric bottom bracket). i don't have the proper tools to take this apart. i don't take the bike to the shop, ever. i could buy the tools if it needs fixing. this is where the poll comes in. if you think you know what could be (and it's fixable with "regular" tools) let me know.
do you even think i should worry about it? i'm still riding and haven't had any problems. i just don't want anything big to happen later.
if i were to convert this bike to a SS (which i might, later), would i need the tools anyways? if so, i might just invest in the tools i need to take apart the crankset.

i am not a mechanic, but what i have learned so far ... a creak from the BB area ... can be one of a few things ...
either bearings that got wet and need to be repacked.
things are loose and need to be tightened up.
it is possible that when it was all put together no type of grease or lube was put on the threads ...
with it having an EBB ... is that one that is adjustable? ... if so, check out where the bolts are to hold it in place, some of them can cause a creak as well ...
that being said, i took my bike in for the same thing ... they retightened my BB .. made sure everything was lubed up ... torqued everything to spec .. and when i bear down hard enough it still creaks ... but not as bad as it did...
