Installed mechanical discs having problems...
I just bought a KHS solo-one and a slightly used set of discs.
I installed the front disc yesterday (last night) and worked a little more this morning after a good night's sleep.
I cannot get the discs to stop rubbing on the pads. They were almost perfect last night, then I took the wheel off and they have not worked right since.
I have read a dozen or so threads about this...
-I did try re-seating the pads - that did not seem to do much.
-I have made sure the wheel is sitting firmly in the forks.
-How much noise should I hear from the discs? Any? Currently it is a constant rub.
Any other suggestions? This is my first disc install.
The closest LBS is 45 minutes away - I would rather not make that trip if I don't have to.

I had the same trouble when I first installed a disk brake, but realised it's because every time I slid the wheel into place to test the alignment, I wasn't bothering to tighten up the quick release skewer. Tried tightening, and everything was fine.

No - they are Hayes. I know they are not the "best" -- but the price was right :-)
I ended up finishing my work around the house early today - so I brought it to the place I brought it. He had everything adjusted in just a few minutes. To install/adjust; he tightened both brake pads; then adjusted the two screws on the top of the caliper (a step I did not do). It then took him several minutes to "true" the disc -- so I think that was the big culprit. Just got home about a half an hour ago and rode the bike around the yard (yes 11pm EST -- one of the perks about living on a farm). I know the Hayes brakes are not the best - but they still are cool!!
Again - the disc still rubs a little as it rotates; but I'm not too worried. If I do worry about that, I'll go crazy - because that means EVERY time I take the front wheel off to transport the bike, I'll have to adjust the brake.
