Deep section rims & valve extenders

Hey everyone. I just bought my first pair of deep section, aero rims (Mavic Cosmic Carbones) and am having some issues. As directed by my LBS, I've put some teflon tape on the inner tube valve stem before I put the valve extender on. I've heard that this sort of setup will tend to leak air a little faster than just a straight-up presta valve, but my tubes both completely emptied in about 8 hours. Does this sound right? Are there any other precautions I can take to avoid losing air so quickly? Also, my valve extenders are a little more narrow than the opening in the rim, and when I ride over a rough road, I hear some vibration. Any suggestions for what I can use to keep this from happening? Chewing gum or something like that? Thanks.

Rich

Spring for new tubes with long stems and dump the extenders.

Long valves will still rattle. The holes on Carbones are big, thus letting the valve move around. Wrap a small rubber band around the vavle and the nearest spoke. It's the fix I've been using for years with Carbones, Reynolds and some Zipp hoops.

I use Performance ultra light tubes with 60 mm stems in my Carbones. They don't rattle.
