Toeclips ARGH!!!!

So far I have bought 3 sets of plastic toe clips and none of them fit my feet, even the ones advertised as having plenty of room for mountain biking shoes. Well I wear sneakers or running shoes, not skinny little alien shoes.

Am I missing something? What happened to those nice old fashioned metal ones that you could bend if necessary?

Has anyone resolved this issue? Can we soak these in really hot water and reshape them?

I wear all-leather mocs with one-piece, hard rubber soles\heels
with my mid-80s steel toe clips. These are mocs I previously
wore until they were too shabby for street use but still
servicable for cycling. My current pair has been in and out
of my steel clips every day, year 'round for five years and
my second pair of cycling-condition mocs are waiting
impatiently in the wings for their demise.

I buy my mocs in Singapore at Bata Shoes ("First to Bata,
then to School" is Bata's ad jingle for Sing kids this time
of year), but the style and materials are nearly universal.
The one-piece, hard rubber soles are nearly as firm as bike
shoes and the leather tops wear like iron against those
steel clips.

Indoor soccar shoes are another suggestion I read here once.
Apparently they have low-profile toes that might fit clips
even better than my mocs. They would be lace-up, I suppose,
but maybe Velcro. I like the mocs because I can slip in and
out of them easily and for my daily rides on my mid-80s,
lugged, CrMo steel bikes, they work fine.

probably u r getting the wrong size to start with, toelcips come in 3 sizes (usually)

Secondly if you use tennis or sneekers is kind'a hard to pedaling, so that makes a little difference. advice? get shimano or any other brand mb shoes (just naming shimaNO because that the usual junk u find everywhere), u can walk with those ones a little bit. Do not run with the arent designed for that.

Toe clips are still pretty much standard for police officers; no one wants a police officer walking across the hardwood floor with big hairy cleats on his shoes.
Also, we have to get off and walk and/or run on occasion. So, most guys go either for standard "uniform" athletic shoes or one of the commercial "patrol bike" shoes.
Toe clips are a PITA..... As you note, they are often the wrong size, and ordering bigger or littler ones can be a pain.
One thing a lot of our guys use is the "half clip" Essentially, just a cup you jam your toe into with no straps. They position your feet pretty well, yet they are easy to get out of.

What size shoes do you wear? You should be pedaling with the balls of your feet, not with the arches or heels over the pedals. The balls are the forward curved part that's pointing downwards if your curl your toes upwards. Or they're the parts that's pushing on the ground when you reach up to reach a high-shelf with your heels off the ground.

Correct fit then has the balls of the feet over the pedal-spindles. Some riders like track-racers will actually have the balls of their feet about 2-5mm behind the spindle for extra spin and power. That really leaves very little of the foot hanging over the front of the pedal.

I did try mini clips" (no strap) but also could not fit my foot into it.

The plastic clips either sort just don't have enough height to allow me to slide my foot all the way into it with out jammin it in and crushing my sneaker and toes.

Not to steal the torch or anything but my feet are size 15. I ride WellGo Road pedals with MKS single gate XL clips. Sometimes I feel like the edge of the pedals are digging into my arches but then again I have very flat feet. :/ I guess I should experiment with other pedals? Any recs on the MKS tour pedals for big feet, or is there better? I'm still quite scared of pedal striking.

Yes; clipless pedals.

One cool benefit is biking shoes are MUCH better for riding than sneakers or running shoes.

How about Power Grips? Sounds like just the thing.
