Park PCS-1 upgrade kit?
I have an old PCS-1, I believe around 1996 and I was wondering if I am correct that I remember Park offering a free upgrade kit to fix the clamp strength? Something to do with the plastic screw not being strong enough or the screw not being able to be torqued down enough via the knob. I know the newer PCS-1s come with a lever which would theoretically be a lot easier to tighten than the large knob that is on mine.
Do any of you recall if Park offered this kit for free or if it was for a fee? Jay |
E-mail them info@parktool.com and ask.

Actually, I did and got a reply saying they want $10. I somewhat recall it being free, that they replaced the plastic with metal or something stronger. In any case, I'm only a home mechanic and not a pro so I've gotten by with the PCS-1 slipping every so often fine so I would only upgrade/fix it if it was free. Save the money for tubes or parts!

Dude, it's 8 years old! $10 sounds like a deal to me.

You can use the more durable shop clamp in the PCS1 stand. The cores are interchangable.

DieselDan, it's not the clamp itself, it's the adjustment that keeps the clamp stationary and not rotating towards the front of the bike (which sticks out more so is heavier). You rotate the clamp til it's at an angle where the bike is horizontal, then tighten that knob, but the knob is hard to really tighten (even when it was new).
