Difference between double butted spokes?
I'm trying to figure out what builds up to a more durable wheel - building with 2.0/1.5 spokes (e.g. Sapim Laser, DT Rev) or 2.0/1.8 ones (Sapim Race, DT Comp).
I thought the latter option would make a stronger wheel, but looking at this seems to contradict that idea: http://www.sapim.be/index.php?st=pro...il=fatiguetest |
somebody's gotta know the answer to this. spokes aren't that mystifying.

2.0/1.8 would be more "durable" in my experience. 2.0/1.5 are very thin in the middle, so they are more flexible and they wind up easily.

i weigh around 135 and i can get away with 2/1.5 revolution on a disc wheel for xc. not sure if that helps. i agree with above if you need more durability 1.8.
i have not had a problem building up 1.5's like everyone complains about.....wind-up etc. mx |
