Which Freehub Body?
 

It looks like my LBS damaged the freehub body on my 105 8 speed GS when they greased the bearings.

I need to get a replacement fitted.

The Shimano FH RM30 is an 8 speed freehub body, but are there specific freehub bodies for specific groupsets?

Do Shimano fit the same 8 speed unit to all the Road and MTBs?

Would any 8 speed Shimano freehub body fit OK?

Damaged how? If it is damaged, have you asked the LBS about it?

Jive Turkey has a point. I do not believe that a 105 has a freewheel it has a cassette. Yes, in order to repack the bearing the cassette need to be removed. Almost anyone can do this with the prober tools, which I assume the LBS has.

105 is cassette .... screw up one if those is really hard. Those hubs and freehub body is super easy to take appart with 3 tools, wonder what they did**********

Stupid people... well the good news is that all those 8sp ones are the same, even the MB one. Just swap it. Done. Dura ace i believe is slighty different internally and may it wont work but im not that sure.

Sheldon has a page with the details. look for it or simply get a new hub, it wil lbe cheaper in the long term.

Don't ever come back to that lbs. Do the stuff your self.

The nicer ones have extra seals in the base of the freehub body where it meets the hub to aid in keeping out dirt and water.

And yeah, how in the blazes did they mess up a freehub body? You'd need to clamp the snot out of it in a really big vise to do anything. They are heat treated to a pretty tough hardness level and don't damage easily.

He never said freewheel. Freehub body that cassette mounts to.

Can we know exactly what type of damage are we talking about?



Yes, even a 105 9 spd would work just fine.
