Bottle Cage Issue

My son's new 54cm Specialized S-Works E-5 (2003 model) requires that the front der. clamp be mounted between the water bottle cage bolts on the seat tube. This prevents conventional bolting on of the cage. What is the solution for this?

Thanks.

Spacers/washers if this does not cause it to interfere with anything else.

Spacers.

Use longer water bottle cage bolts and install spacers between the water bottle cage and the frame.

Usually the bikes that need the spacers come with them. If you did not get any ask the shop you got the bike from for a couple. A couple of presta valve nuts work as well.

I like the Profile plastic cages because they don't mar the bottles... so I don't have dirty hands. The advantage of the thick plastic frame is that it is easy to file around a derailleur. Other metal cages don't have a frame between both bolts, so they would fit around a derailleur clamp.

My Allez Elite Cro-Mo is the same way. I just kept tightening the bolts and this caused the cage to bend a little bit. The clamp only sticks out a few mm past, so not much was bent. Works fine. and nothing moves. Maybe your clamp sticks out further

my LBS put presta valve nuts, just like rev chuck said, as spacers between the cage and the frame. i also have a specialized allez

Try fitting a bottle cage on the seat tube .

That is what they are trying to do.

Are you sure you're mounting it correctly? I've a 58cm Allez Comp 04 (its frame is very similar to the S-Works 03) and there's plenty of clearance between the lower bottle-cage bolt and front der clamp.
