Need expert help on upgrade Campy

So I picked up a really nice used but not abused 2005 Lemond Sarthe this afternoon. Love the color and the way the trusty old steel frame makes you feel. The only problem is the paint is peeling on the crank arms. It currently has the TruVativ GXP Pipe BB and Bontrager Race Lite Pipe crankset. If I want to replace the crankset, what do I have to watch out for, e.g. BB shell width, DD width, etc. I would like to get some used Campy Record crankset like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Campagnolo-Campy...QQcmdZViewItem, would I also need to get the Record BB?

Assuming the bike currently has a double crankset, you'll need to know your BB shell width and threading before ordering a new BB (yes, you will need a Campy square taper BB [not necessarily Record though] for that crank. Shimano square taper is NOT compatible). Campy most likely will have a recommendation for what BB width to use with their double cranks for a proper chainline. Do note that you will likely need to make some front derailler adjustments after swapping cranks as the chainlines are never quite the same.

Thanks for the help. After much search, it seems that the current BB isn't really known for its durability. So, I think I will replace the crankset and the BB at the same time. If I get a Campy Veloce crankset like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=350096147055, do you know what BB would I need? It appears the length of the BB also has to do with the seat-tube size, and in my case for 2005 Lemond Sarthe, would you happen to know what that might be?

I am an noob, so any help here is greatly appreciated.

Your bottom bracket is English threaded and has a 68 mm shell width. You will need the Campy bottom bracket that matches the crank. Square taper Cenatur and Veloce use a symetrical bottom bracket while square taper Chorus and Record use an asymetrical bb. Get the right one.

Got it. THanks a lot for your help. This crankset/bottom bracket business is actually pretty complicated
