Shifting Issue
I have a problem with a 7 speed friction Campy system. The rear shifter will move the chain over the cogs as it should but when I release my hand from the shifter, it moves back to its furthest position and brings the chain back to the smallest cog in the rear. Would this be a shifter problem, a rear derailleur problem, a cable tension problem, etc? Thanks for any input!

Tighten the shifter. The shifter keeps the derailleur in place. There should be a nut or bolt on the side of it you can tighten.

this sound like a shifter problem. try tighen the d ring little more.if needed try taken the shifter apart and use a little sandpaper to roughen up the plastic disc and put it all back togather and all should work again.

Thanks for the quick response!

I don't know how long you've been using these shifters but expect to have to tighten them frequently. Losing their adjustment is a well documented problem with Campy downtube friction shifters.
