Do I need a new BB?

Hello Forumites.
I have some squeaking problem at the crank area today while riding especially when I push hard with the left crank. After checking I feel some play when wiggle the crank set, after remove both crank arms (Daytona double) I still feel a little lateral play at the BB spindle, I'd tried to tighten the L/R cup but they would not go any further because bottom out at the BB shell. Is there any ajustment can be done?
I took the BB out and everything seems to be fine, if I squeeze the left cup in by hand, there is no play at the spindle. Do I need a new BB?
Thanks
Andrew
