Max fork steerer length
All, I have raised my handle bars up and was wondering what the max length you can leave the steerer tube on a 1 inch threadless carbon fork with an alloy steerer, See pic. Does anyone know if this is dangerous or not? It seems fine to me but want to make sure.

Alloy or Cr-Mo steerers aren't as sensitive to spacers as carbon steerers but I wouldn't go above about 50 mm (2") of spacers with a 1" fork, particularly if you are a heavy rider. What do you have in there now?

Personally I'd feel more comfortable with a stem that had more rise. I'll agree with HR though, regarding the alloy vs. carbon steerer and height of the spacers.

get a stem with more rise and ( I know I'll catch hell) learn to ride in a pursuit style--- I don't like how this looks and I wouldn't trust it for a large strong rider. . . I like to ride on my hands.... but thats me and I've already caught hell from pros --- and well if you wanna be a freewheeling rebel

From Reynolds fork site:
How many spacers can I use?
On an 1 1/8” fork you can use a maximum of 4.0 cm/1.58” of spacers.
On a 1” fork you can use a maximum of 2.5 cm/1.0” of spacers.

BTW, Easton allows 50 mm (2") of spacers on their 1-1/8" carbon steerer forks.

Thanks for all the info that is kind of what I thought but I already bought a stem so I will have to trim off about 10cm and it should be fine. Its at 60cm right now.
