Mavic to Easton - 1 Spacer or 0?

While switching from a Mavic Ksyzium Elite to an Easton Tempest 2 (non carbon), how do I know whether to use spacers? I have old ones from the Mavic.

The cassette is a 10 speed Ultegra 6600 (Shimano CS 27). The hub seems to work OK with 1 or less. But only a faint fishing reel ratchet noise. Is that because the Easton has a better hub than most? or did I screw something up?

Mavics need their own spacer in addition to the thin 10 speed one. Soooo, switching wheels just ditch the thicker of the two spacers.
