broken freewheel?

Hi, I don't have much experience with fixing bikes. I have bionx pedal assist motor on my bike. All has been running well for the past year, today when I was pedaling, suddenly every couple of minutes it would seem like it would slip, within about 7-10 minutes the freewheel would freely spin at the same rate of my pedaling but not actual turn the rear wheel. At first when I engaged the throttle the chain would seem to catch and then the wheels would spin normally, but after another 10 or so minutes it stopped catching. I got off my bike a few times to check and when I tried to rotate the cranks backward the chain moved through sluggishly and the hanger would pivot towards the front resulting in a slack chain at the top as it left the cranks moving backwards. Does anyone know what it may be? I'll be taking it in tomorrow, but it would be great to have an idea before I go.

Thanks
