canti adjustment on my ride..

So I have an older set of diacompe cantilevers and weinman yokes. I've been trying to get this thing fine tuned but one of the levers keeps favoring one side on the brake return.

Per the parktools website, I verify that the springs are in their proper holes so that they have the same tension, I set up the arms to be parallel to each other when i align the pads with necessary toe-in. I set the traverse cable/yoke as low as possible. Keep in mind that the traverse cable i have is very stiff (which could be the culprit). Once I have all that set, I set the yolk height and main cable accordingly. Everything looks centered. I operate the brake and when it releases, it favors one side..and the yoke is no longer centered. My cantis dont have the screw on the side to align them???

What am i missing? Is it cuz the old school yokes just flat out suck? Will something like the following two pics make my life easier?

Heck.. can i just tape the traverse cable on each side of the yoke to keep it centered?

...and finally.. is it called a traverse cable?
thanks!

similar question... i have a stop that wraps around my quill stem. I'm thinking of drilling a hole on the top of my stem. Anyone see a problem with this?

ahhh!!!! nothing (almost nothing) more frustrating than off centered brakes, and i'm OCD, so it's x3 for me. well, if the wheel itself is truly centered, and your adjusting screws properly set on each side, then check into a new center/bridge cable. are your pads on both sides set at the same/proper positioning on the brake arms? symetry at it's best, my friend.

My Diacomps dont use the spring holes so I balance them with a wrench.
Drilling a stem is not a good idea, its is too safety critical. You are setting yourself up for a stem failure.
Good quality front canti-stops are really hard to find. Im using an old steel one to get more drop and it is really bendy, sucking brake power. I have seen ones which fix to the fork crown and seem to be really stiff.

Yes, this seems like a horrible idea.

Maybe the straddle cable is sticking in the yoke? Put a little oil or grease in the yoke and see if that helps.
