play in sealed bearing hub?

My rear hub on my specialized Allez has some play in the axle. the play is not due to loose end caps, play still exists with the freehub and endcaps removed. It has sealed cartridge bearings, brand on the hub is "A class".

Would this be fixed by replacing the cartridges, or is there something else I should be looking for?

I had the same problem on a new Bianchi a few years ago. Alex brand wheels. Apparently it came with a defective or wrong size cartridge bearing. The shop replaced it and the wheels have been fine since.
