Tubulars: Switching from tape to glue
I bought my Bontrager Race X Lite Carbon Aero tubulars second hand. They came with tires taped on using the tufo tape.
Now that it is 'cross season I've pulled the road tires off and will be putting 'cross tires on. The tape came off fine, but it left a pretty thick sticky residue on the rim. Should I be removing this before I glue my 'cross tires? If so, what should I use? Acetone? Alcohol?
Thanks!

Use a clean towel and thinner (MEK is good stuff for this but use it in a well ventilated area) to clean out any dirt/debris that may be trapped on the surface of the residue. Once it's clean put your new glue over the top of that surface.

Alcohol won't work at all. Acetone does a good job of dissolving the old glue. Lacquer thinner works the best, but evaporates fast, so you have to work quickly.

Make sure the stuff cannot just be rolled up and peeled off before using any solvents. I have never had to do anything except peel the adhesive(pretty thick, comes off pretty easy) from the rim when removing Tufo tape.

Yeah, I already went over the rims and took care of anything that could be rolled up and/or peeled off.
