700C Synergy rim/folding tire compatibility

Curious if folks have any problems with the 700C Velocity Synergy rim and some tires. I have a front wheel that I've had for a year using a folding Specialized Borough 32mm tire. It went on easy and fit fine. I recently put on a 700x35 Marathon Schwalbe that's been on a few days that spontaneously popped/exploded sitting against the wall.
The tire goes on/off even easier than the Specialized folding tire. I didn't see anything on the inside of the rim that might have cut the tube where it was ripped open for a foot, although I'm using two layers of duct tape and not 'rim tape' it appears sufficient. Just wondering if this tire/rim combo is especially loose or if this was one of those random sunspot/karma tube failures. I had the tire pumped to 80psi.

I have a pair of Synergy's, on my road bike, (rear is O/C), and I am so happy with them that I am buying another set for the cyclocross bike I'm building. The road bike is running Gatorskin 28's.

It sounds to me like you didn't have the bead properly seated. When mounting a folding tire, I always bring it up to perhaps 10psi, then work my way around using my thumbs to squeeze/push the sidewall at the bead to ensure it is down where it belongs. After that, I pump the tire up normally.

correction, Schwalbe supremes,,,that's what I would have thought except for how loose the tire was on the rim. I'm getting an OC for the rear. Curious if your synergys have machined sidewalls, I thought the front one was but it's mighty grabby on the seam while braking compared to the stock Alex rim on the Surly LHT. I had a wired on gaterskin that is much more snug on the rim than the folding Marathon supreme.

Supremes, eh? I have two new ones sitting here waiting to go on the cyclocross bike, (it will really be used for touring). Yes, the Synergy's on the road bike have machined sidewalls. Initially, the seam on the front rim was noticeable under braking, but that gradually went away.

I use Velocity Synergy and Synergy rims regularly with both wire bead and folding tires.
I have never experienced any problems with fit or blow-offs.
As another poster said, I check bead seating at low pressure first (it also insures that the inner tube isn't between the bead and the rim).
I wonder if the tire in question fit OK on other rims.

It might be a bad tire. I had one tire that kept blowing off the rim and then finally it ripped the kevlar bead out of the casing

Maybe it was just one of those anomalous events, there was a folding Specialized Borough tire on the Synergy rim for 18mo, the marathon supreme was on a cheapy rim for 1/2 yr,,,the synergy rim has less of a lip than the cheapy rim. Maybe I'm extrapolating from an insufficient set of data to be blaming the tire or rim. I've reseated it with a new rim strip and see how that goes.

Gotta say that that the LHT with a 35mm supreme is an extremely comfy ride, it's like riding a high performance Barco Lounger. My other bike is a custom touring bike with 26"x1.5 wheels with a shorter wheelbase and chainstays and the LHT has less bounce over bumps. What a difference long wheelbase makes.

Most likely you just had the tube pinched between the tire and rim.
