Bikes: Currently just an old GT Tequesta MTB, but just rebuilt from the ground up as a single speed and love it! Next project is a road fixie, looking for a donor....

Rim types

Hi all,

I've been out of the bicycling loop for a long time. I simply had a couple of nice bikes and rode them to death. Now I'm into this SS thing and I'm rebuilding a bike or two.

My question: I've used the following brakes, centerpull, sidepull, U-brakes, but not V-brakes. I have the opportunity to pick up a set of slightly used wheels but they state that the rims are for V-brakes? Is there a compatability issue with non-V brakes (my cantilevers) ? Are perhaps the rim sides machined at a special angle or something?

Please give me some history here...Thanks!

Rims for centerpull, sidepull, U-brakes, and V-brakes are all the same in basic nature.
If they will work with one, they will work with all, as long as the brakes are properly set up.

If the rim was designed to take braking on the side, then any braking system which brakes on that surface will do.

I suspect that the seller ment to indicate they were rim brake rims as opposed to disc brake rims.
