Will SL-7700 Down Tube Shifters run XT Front Der

On my LHT build up I am using a 22/34/44 front crankset with a 12/34 cassette. I have XT deraileurs, an M-771 SGS rear and an M-770 front. I want to run down tube shifters. My question is, can I use DuraAce SL-7700 down tube shifters? My searches have turned up inconclusive information suggesting that the SL-7700 front shifter is not compatable. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Randy

Depends. Are you gonna run the front in friction mode? Friction would work with any conceivable arrangement.

Why anyone would want to work index on a front derailleur is beyond me.

Hi dobber,
Thanks for the response. Friction mode of course. So cable pull direction on the SL-7700 is conventional ?

There are no downtube shifters that have an index mode for the front shifter, so it will have to be friction. Same for bar end shifters.

Is the front derailleur you have intended for bottom pull cable routing? The derailleur cables run under the bottom bracket on the LHT-

You should be set then. The shifter will work fine with the derailleur.
