Deore FH-M650 Hub 7 or 8 Speed Campatible
 

Deore FG-M650 Rear Hub. I want to change it over to 8 speed, but I believe these are just 6/7 campatible not 7/8??? Anyways, Happy Holidays!

I'm not completely familiar with that model hub but I'm pretty sure it's a freehub. You could switch the 6/7-speed freehub body for an 8/9/10-speed body. It's not a difficult job and the 8+ speed bodies are available. Here is one source:

You will need to respace the hub depending on your frame's dropout width and redish the wheel.

You need the longer body.
I picked up a taco'd 9 speed rear wheel for next to nothing and swapped the FH bodies with my 7 speed. I spent more for the 10MM Allen wrench than I did for the wheel!

Yeah, LBS discards are a great source of usable parts. I've gotten perfectly useable hubs and hub parts at no or insignificant cost by asking for trashed wheels at my LBS. A bike that been in an accident can be the organ donor for numerous good components.
