SRAM PC-1 Snap Link...where is it?

so i just bought a new chain from Performance and when i opened the package i can't seem to find the snap link? For those that have it does it look different than other links? Are the pins smooth opposed to "step" peened? Does it come in a separate baggie? I've looked and i can't find it...all that came in the box was a chain and at the ends were just two "inner" links where i'm assuming the snap link would go.. No loose pieces anywhere.

either way i just used a chain breaker to shorten the chain and reuse the pin. I rode on it for a block and it seemed fine, but is this safe?

Every SRAM chain I've purchased has come with the quick link in the same package as the chain, just not installed. If you were supposed to get one and it's not in the package, it must have been removed or forgotten. Call Performance and they'll send you one no questions asked (that has been my experience at least).

If the rivets used in the chain are flush to begin with, I would not feel safe re-using the chain pin. It will not be properly secured in the outer plates and you risk it working loose.

Some brands do not include a master link.

Yup, it comes in a small, clear packet. I'd check the literature that came with the chain to see if it's stuck inside.

hrm i looked around and from what i remember at least nothing came in the bag where the paperwork was. the label on the box says snap-link included. I looked all over the ground and couldn't find anything, but i did find pieces of an inner link when i shortened the chain..

i'll give performance a call, or i might just go out and buy another.. on sale for 11 bucks. thanks for the replies. but the thing is SRAM doesn't sell these types of links separately, unlike their multi-speed chains (i.e. i bought the 9 speed connector)..this snap-link is different than their powerlinks.

ok i just went and bought another chain from performance. now i'm pretty sure the link was taken out of the packaging when i bought the first one. The second chain i got has a little zip loc baggie with the lock inside. I'll just continue riding on my chain as is and once that link breaks with the reused pin i'll replace that link with the snap lock.

i carefully looked over the chain and cant really find the pin that i reused, and nothign looks out of place yet.

If you took the chain with the missing link back you would get your money back even if you rode it. Performance is exceptional in this regard. Good luck.

I tried replacing a quick link with a regular pin and it worked for months then broke.
