Fork changing=headset changing?

I have a GT Avalanche 3.0 bike which came with suntour front suspension. As I use the bike for commuting I got a set of rigid forks. Both forks have a 1 1/8 steerer tube but the new forks have a slightly different steerer tube bottom profile.

Ie where the bottom of the steerer tube fits the bottom bearing cup. On the suntour it is a taper while on the gusset forks it is a small step.

What do I need to change to get them to fit properly?

I hope this post makes sense!!

The new rigid fork will need the crown race from the old fork. The crown race is the ring at the bottom of the old fork. Hopefully these will help:

AMEN!
I just setup a Ritchey Breakaway Cross with a Ritchey carbon fork and purchased a Surly CrossCheck fork. I purchased a bottom race and the bike uses the all the same parts for assembly. Not complicated. Great links for the race installation.
