Brake pads and grinding paste

Hi, does anyone know if there are any V-brake pads which don't produce that grey/black grinding paste when riding in the rain (commuting on road using a mountain bike with aluminum rims)? Do Kool Stop (dual compound or black compound types) reduce this? or is it just a consequence of rim brakes and aluminum rims? Its just a bit of a pain having to clean the rims down and it seems to get everywhere when locking up...

Thanks
