STI rear tension adjustment

My wife's rear derailleur is self-shifting in the middle sprockets. I can't find the manual for the rear derailleur (only the front - ain't that always the case?). How do you adjust the tension (assuming that's what needs to be done) on the STI rear derailleur? Thanks for your help!

The same as any other derailleur... I would just retension the cable. Undo the cable from the derailleur, pull it tight at the cable stop on the downtube (makes sure its not sticking in the housing up front there), then pull it tight at the derailleur and clamp it back down. Do this is the smallest gear in back, the cable should be taught in all gears but looser in the smallest than the largest (outermost and innermost). I sometimes use a pair of needlenose pliers to get a good grip on the cable for a good hard pull.

I't probably just a barrel or a wire adjustment but it's hard to tell not knowing what components you have. Park tools website has a good page devoted to this. www.parktools.com
