Replace Suntour XC Expert RD with...?
Fixing a friend's ancient Rockhopper, which is nicely outfitted with vintage Suntour. She doesn't really care about that, though. The joint between cage and body of the RD is dying. I have a nice Shimano Deore RD in my parts bin - will it index with Suntour? I'm getting mixed reviews through search.

unfortunatley, suntour and shimano have different indexing. if there is a friction mode on the shifters, no worries. normally when i run into this, i will get the sunrace shifters (all metal friction- $10) and call it a day.

Grim. Looks like I'm trolling EBAY. Alternatively, is there any way to fix the RD? I've successfully removed and reattached the pulley cage from the body, but it's a strange setup that allows no adjustment as far as I can tell. If I'm feeling like a I have a lot of time, I'll post pix.
