Should I alter chain length for new cassette?

I recently switched wheelsets between my two LeMonds. Both wheelsets are Bontrager, one set Select and the other Race Lite. There is a 12-21 cassette on the Selects and a 12-25 cassette on the Race Lites. I am going to keep the 12-25 Race Lites on one bike and sell the other bike equipped with the 12-21 Selects. I switched the wheelsets straight across. Do I need to change the chain length on either/both of these bikes? Shall I simply remove a pin on each chain and check to see if the length is appropriate (yes, I know how to do that check) or, from your experience, are the cassettes close enough to leave chains as is?

Info appreciated.

The difference would be 2 "half-links" which isn't enough to bother with as long as the chain on the 12x25 will let you shift into big-big with no problems. If it won't you need to add the additional links for safety.

reviving this to ask about the opposite extreme.

If my mtb had a 46/36/26 crankset and a 13-30 cassette, and then I modded to 46/35/24 and 12-21, would I need to shorten the chain? And are we talking a drastic shortening, or a couple of links?

btw, My derailleur is a short cage model, 28t max, fwtw.

From 30 big on the cassette to 21 big yes, I would. Big ring on the crank didn't change. Could you get away with it? Yeah, probably, but I tend to be a perfectionist.

There is probably no need to do anything. You are pushing the wrap limit of you short cage RD. The way to insure that you get the maximum wrap capacity is to set the chain length to the maximum that will not cause it to hang loose or rub on the upper chain guide tab in the little/little. Since that combination should never be used, you could set the length in the 24/13 or 24/14. Always double check that it can wrap the bib/big. If not, the wrap capacity has been exceeded.

The thing to remember is the 1 inch minimum change in chain length equals 4T of wrap..
