stuck cassette
My bike was new 25 years ago, now it still is in perfect condition bar the fact that the cassette keeps freezing. When I dug the bike out of the garage 1 month ago, the pedals would move both clockwise and counterclockwise and the wheel did not. I solved this by spraying it with WD-40 and spinning the cassette backwards and forwards. It looks like that was due to the locking mechinism being frozen.
It is now 1 week later. Im out on a ride and stop at a stoplight. It turns green so i lift my pedal up so i can go, and the chain bunches up. The cassette wont move backwards. I spray it again with WD-40 and play with it untill it spins freely.
Advance another week, same problem again. only this time its making a strange noise when i pedal forwards. so i do the same thing again to fix it, the sound goes away and it appears to work again.
It is now 2 days later. IT DID IT AGAIN!
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong in fixing it? Should i go buy a new cassette?

If your bike is 25 years old, it has a freewheel with gears/sprokets rather than a cassette. This should help you:

Given the age, probably a combination of rust, and hardened grease. You can try a thorough WD-40 flush, followed by spinning the freewheel/cassette to circulate it, and spin out the excess, then lubing with using a medium weight machine oil. If it decides to run properly, great, but you're probably on borrowed time. The pawl springs are very thin and with a bit of rust they get brittle and disintegrate.
Sometime soon, maybe immediately you'll need to replace it, but you're probably looking for a spin-on freewheel, vs. a freehub.
