issue finding derailleur with 29mm downtube clamp

Hi,

I have a trek 370 road series cro-moly frame which has a 29mm downtube. unfortunately I am having trouble finding a front derailleur with a clamp that size. Is there a way that I can have a larger size (most likely a 32mm) clamp fit properly? Thanks

The front derailleur clamps onto the seattube of a frame.
28.6mm ones aren't that uncommon, but you can make a 31.8mm one fit by shimming it with a section of 1-1/4" diameter PVC pipe that has a wall thickness of about 1/16".

Could you try filing or sanding a 28.6 to fit?

There's no such thing as a 29mm O/D seattube that doesn't have a derailleur hanger mounted on it, so I assume he's talking about a 28.6.

I think the current Shimano 31.8 come with a shim for 28.6.

You can find a 28.6 collar on eBay or other.

I've just bought this one: https://www.xxcycle.com/collier-derai...nt-286,,en.php
Works perfectly and is quite nice.

I just picked-up a brand-new 28.6mm Campagnolo Record, from the late 1970's, on eBay for $10. I found this as I have a good old-fashioned vintage bicycle that requires the 28.6mm. They are getting scarce. But I also recently bought a Shimano FD - and it came with clamps for all the sizes.

In that Shimano (not always) sends these along with the purchase, your LBS may have a bucket-full of these clamps. Make a few phone calls.

Find a clamp that then allows you to use a braze-on FD.

are adapter clamps pretty universal or to be more specific, will a "generic" one work with a campy derailleur
