slightly bent spokes on Ksyrium Elite wheel - advice?
Hi there,
I'm in the process of building a bike and I came across this used, but very good condition, wheel for an amazing price of $70, including an Ultegra cassette in very good condition. But all dreams come to an end, and upon arriving home I discovered that two spokes were slightly bent, obviously after sustaining a collision of some kind, since they are only one spoke apart and the bents match. How bad is this for a Mavic Ksyrium Elite rear 20-spoke wheel (I'm quite new to bike mechanics and wheel technology and etc.)? Can I fix it? How? Do I need two new spokes and where can I get them (they're the aero kind)? Any other advice? So did I get taken on this deal (when fixing these spokes is calculated into the price)? Argh, I was so happy, and now my bubble is popped... another lesson I guess. Here are some pics of the damage: http://s687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/dansenanja/ Thanks for any advice you might have. |
You can simply replace both spokes, no biggie. You'll need to take the wheel to shop, and order the spokes if they don't have them. They are about $2/each, and putting one or two in shouldn't be a problem, or very expensive. Then the wheel should be trued and you're good to go.
You can fix it if you get the spokes, but on a wheel that good, I'd probably let the shop do it. And be there to watch them do it, you'll see two things: 1-bike wrenching is simple, and 2-tools make the difference |
