Noisy bottom bracket
I've got a Kestrel Talon, ridden once and wrecked in 2004, hung in a shop since then and has maybe 50 miles on it since. It was not damaged in the wreck, but threw the rider and she gave up the sport.
Anyway, the crankset is Campy Chorus 9-sp and the bb is the Chorus cartridge. Running 53/11 or 53/12, it squeaks like all get out, only when I'm pedaling, seems to be coming from the bb, only squeaks when I'm turning the crank. Almost silent in the middle of the rear cassette and noisier as the chain moves outward.
As I'm unfamiliar with cartridge BB's, I'm wondering if it's the problem? and is there a solution besides replacement? Thanks.

If the noise goes away depending on where the chain is on the cassette, it's not a bearing issue. A worn out bottom bracket will creak or click under high pedalling loads when it first starts to go then make more and more noise as it wears even under lesser pedalling loads. There will also be increased friction in the bearings which you might be able to detect by taking the chain off the crank and spinning just the cranks by themselves.
But, I really don't think that's the issue here. First thing to do is to oil the chain if you already haven't. Next, check the adjustment on the front derailler. If you don't now how, visit www.parktool.com for info and follow their instructions to the letter. Post back if you have trouble. The rear derailler could also be the culprit and Park Tool has info on it as well.

Chain is lubed well, 9-sp Shimano with less than 200 miles.
Front derailleur is not rubbing.
Rear derailleur working fine, adjusts right on.
On the rack, everything's fine. First 4-5 miles of a triathlon, no noise.
The noise gets worse the longer the ride goes.
Yesterday, started off fine, about 4-5 miles in, pulling hard, it started to make real noise.
We took a break, and in the parking lot, just spinning the crank made noise.
I'll put it on the rack ASAP, ride a different bike in the meantime. Thanks for your time.
