XTR 952 chainring and crank question

It is finally time to replace my rings on my M952 crankset. I know the outer is 104mm spacing 4 arm and inner is 64mm spacing too.

I have also found a cheap outer M952 XTR ring but want to replace the inner and middle too. Is possible to just get a 64mm 4 arm inner and a 104mm 4 arm middle from another manufacturer and replace them or is it more complex than that.

If you're running XTR, I wouldn't go "cheap." Inexpensive XTR is great, but I'd re-think cheap off-brand.

Unless you have an aftermarket spider on your M952 crank, its BCD is not 104/64. The first 4-arm XTR crank (including the M952) uses a rather unique BCD of 112/68 and this is incompatible with the current, prevalent and easy-to-find 104/64 chainrings for 4-arm cranks.

For your XTR crank, you can either buy the Shimano chainrings, or get a rather expensive spider conversion kit to allow use of the much more common 110/74mm BCD chainrings.

Looks like I'll get a new XT crank then as the price of a set of rings is more than a new crank. Or I might even go for another brands crankset as I don't like companies that shun compatability.

Thanks for the advice guys, was hoping to get raceface rings but looks like I'll be getting a new crankset.
