a metal lockblock?

Hi,

I have a bar end mirrycle mirror I wish to put on my dropbars. I can't use STI mirrors as I don't have STI's and I can't use barend mirrors as I have barend shifters. So my plan is to use something like a metal lockblock to attach the base of my current mirror to the bar. (The vertical bit is the bar leading up to the brake lever, and the _O is the mirror.)

Is there something out there like this? I'm sure there is, but I can't search as I don't know the name! Something with 2 worm drives would work or other secure fastening mechanism.

Thanks

Daven

I am not sure if such a device does exist. My suggestion ... instead if spending money on a adapter, why not spend it on a new mirror? I'm sure there are mirrors that will work for your situation and they may be far easier to locate than that adapter. I prefer a helmet mounted mirror myself.

Now if you wish to make an adapter a little or no cost, then that is a different story. Since you already have a bar end mirror. I am assuming this mirror used some kind of expanding device to secure it inside the bar. Have you considered finding an old set of bars, or a tube of similar inside dimensions. Cut off a short piece and tape it to your handle bars. Then secure the mirror in the usual manner. You may have to place something in between the handlebars and the tube to provide a small amount of clearance.

Good luck with this..

Thanks, I do have an old bit of bar lying around AND a spare normal lockblock so what I may do is put it on and see if it holds it securely enough. If it does then I am ok :) if not I may have to fashion something...

Ok I used the lock block to secure the mirror and it works but the mirror gets a lot of side to side vibration. Is there something I can do to reduce this - i.e. make the side to side movement of the lockblock less?

I was thinking about using a number of rubber bands to wrap around it like the dinotte lights are mounted.

Thanks

Just curious, why are you using a lockblock? Those things are kind of floppy by nature. If you use black electrical tape to secure the tube section in place, it should be rigid enough. You can then use some old handle bar tape to cover it up.

Consider the German Mirror on the Riv site.

that is a very good question actually. In my eagerness to mount it perhaps I overlooked this! Infact now you mention it this method would be far more rigid! Will give this a shot tomorrow.

@ blue roads: I was hoping to use the same mirror I already have as it is pretty decent and there is no point wasting it.

Thanks :)

Alternately, it would seem to me that a clamp for a reflector or bicycle light could be repurposed to hold the mirror. most bike shops have a bunch of extra reflectors lying around. I'm envisioning cutting the reflector part off, and using the cap screw for the mirror as the fixing bolt for the reflector clamp. Hopefully that makes sense.

Another possibility

@markww: that is a very good idea, I will try to find a clamp like that :) thanks.

@vredstein: can't use that as I have bar end shifters

thanks

I still think you should consider a good helmet mirror

They have never appealed to me to be honest. I just tried markww's method with some gaffer tape and it works a dream.

Thanks
