Front Cable Hanger Question
 

I was recently servicing my brakes and pulled the bonehead move of not spraying down all my connections with rust-off or penetrating lubricant. Unfortunately my auto mechanic "bigger hammer" mentality did not pay off as I broke and stripped the front brake cable hanger and the adjuster screw threaded into it. This looks like a pretty easy part to replace but I wanted to make sure that I am purchasing a part that will fit my bike. The brakes work for now so this is not an emergency fix, I will also be replacing the cables and the bar tape while I am at it as both are looking a little neglected. So I pose the following two questions...

2. Should I replace the brake levers while I am at it? If so what brake levers would you suggest? (I would prefer white)

1. The bracket on ebay will fit on to you steering tube but it not for your brakes. you should be able to find one at your lbs for very little or nothing.along with the adjusting barrel & nut.
2. if you replace the lever most likely they will be areo type. what wrong with what you have ? the tektro brand work nicely if you are on a budget.

So the cable hanger I listed is for a different type of cable I am guessing? What type of cable/cable system is it for? (excuse my ignorance, I am new to road bikes) The levers are fine, albeit a little loose, and to be honest I like the fact that I can brake with my hands on the lower portion of the bar or the upper. I just figured that if it was a good idea to change the levers that now would be the time to do it while I am changing cables and tape. Thanks for the input.

The cable hanger you listed is for a threadless fork/headset. You need something for a threaded system like this http://www.loosescrews.com/index.cgi...d=545327424945

The brake hanger will fit his brakes just fine. All it has to do is hold the end of the cable housing. However, it probably won't work with his headset. It's too thick and it's meant for a theadless headset. That the reason it has a bolt...clamping the hanger to the steer tube.

What you need, daveprozac, is a keyed hanger that is thin. This one will do the trick. This one would be nicer because it's slotted for easier cable removal. It is, however, thicker and might cause some issues with the headset.

Thanx Gonzo and Cyccommute for clarifying, that was what I had thought but nowhere could I find a description of the part stating exactly what type of headset that type of hanger would fit. No fancy colors for me :( . Thanks again everyone for the input.
