serial numbers for schwinn

i have a schwinn traveler that i picked up from the trash and restored as a rider.i was curious as to the year of it,appears to be early 80's.any web sites or infromation would be very helpful.i found one web site but it only deals with chicago schwinns to late 70's

Check the headbadge,

First three is the day of the year, and the last is the last date of the year. So mine was 355th day of 1985. We can tell by the decals if it was a 70's vs and 80's post a pic.

You'll find more information based on date than serial. My serial is located right above the headset.

I like Schwinn Travelers from that era. I had a '79 Traveler that was a lot of fun and great transportation for me when I was young. I commuted on it, rode it with my girlfriend who is now my wife of 25+ years, rode it with guys who had fancier road bikes, etc.

I worked at a taco stand, saved my money, and bought it for somewhere around $200 I think. Seemed like a lot of money at the time. The fit the Schwinn shop did consisted of me standing over the bike, not racking myself, and the bike shop guy saying, "that's the size you need!"

Those were the days.
