Shimano M442 crank & MF-T221 cassette

Is the Shimano Deore M442 (44-32-22) crankset compatible with the 7 speed MF-TZ 21 (14-28) cassette? Someone told me the M442 crankset is for 9 speed not for 7 speed. I have an an Acera M360 Derailleur.

I'm using an M442 crankset on a 7 speed (STX) bike. It works fine.
