Modelo Morphos shifter / braker levers
 

I have an older custom road frame with Campy record and SunTour Superbe Pro components. My derailers, free wheel (7spd), and shifters are all SunTour Superbe Pro. The shifter are Suntour Fly Accu-shifters which attach next the brake lever on the handle bars. In addition I have Dia-Compe BRS500 single pivot brakes. I love the way my SunTour components shift, but I don't like the location of the shifters and the additional weight compared to what is now available through Campy and/or Shimano. I heard about the Modelo Morphus shifter/brake levers a couple a years ago, and heard mix reviews. I was wondering if there are any current options on this product. In addition, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with adapting them to Suntour Superbe Pro.

I don't know a whole lot about the Morphos specifically,
but I found the following when searching for other modolo
stuff. I do know they are used mostly with
the campy/shimano systems.
Morphos are compatable with these systems:
Shimano 7, 8, and 9 speeds. Campy 8 and 9 speeds,
and Index systems 5 and 6 speeds.
Is your suntour 5 or 6 speed index?

My Suntour Superbe Pro is a 7 speed index system. I was hoping to find someone who is still currently using it or a someone who has worked with it. The system use to be "tops" back in the day. I am afraid I am going to have to change to Shimano or Campy because I can no longer find freewheels or chains. Thanks for the reply.

I have found that e-bay is an ok source for freewheels,
chains etc. Also sites like Classic Rendezvous have
classifieds. I used suntour cyclone before, was
really nice stuff.

With index shifting, the important factor is not 6 or 7 speed compatable, but the amount of cable pull per shift. You need to match that to your Suntour derailleur and the cog spacing you use.
Morphs have at least 3 variations on cable pull.

Ive seen Suntour S Pro, its lovely stuff. Does it require a special freewheel unit, or will any one work ?

Bottom line - If you have 7s and want a brake/shifter combo, this is the only way to go safely.

The cheapest alternative w/o buying new cassette, hub and chain and of course new 8s shifters.
