presta tube intersection failure?

Hi all,

Well I pulled out my mountain bike after a while and went for a nice long ride (checked it over first), well about 6 miles from home, the front tube went flat. No thorns, holes in the tire...figured maybe the tube just rotted out or something. So I enjoy my 6 mile hike home and order new Avenir Thorn-Resistant Presta valve MTB tube (26 x 1.95-2.125), I put it in but the old tube had the presta valve completely disconnected from the tube (like it just fell out), pump up the new tube...solid. So go out for a ride then about 2 miles from home the front goes flat again. So I try to pump it up and I notice when I pull the presta toward the hub I hear leaking, not even touching the little screw valve. So I'm thinking that the same issue is happening again...that maybe my rim is somehow hurting the valve/tube interface...any ideas? Thanks!

Bill

Check for burrs around the rim's valve hole, file any smooth.

Are you using the little nut that screws onto the valve and cinches against the rim? It's possible that if the nut is tightened too much it can pull the valve out of the tube, which is why many (including myself) don't use them.

Also, make sure the valve leaves the rim perpendicularly from the rim (pointing straight to the hub).
