How to remove Suntour GPX bottom bracket?

My Centurion Ironman Dave Scott Expert (circa 1989) with a Suntour GPX bottom bracket needs to be adjusted or replaced. I'd like to do this myself, but I am having trouble figuring out what bottom bracket tool I will need to buy. The one in my friend's bicycle repair kit from Performance Bicycle wouldn't fit.

My bottom bracket has a "VX" taper size. I'm not sure what that means.

I found this original catalog for Suntour GPX parts:

Can anyone help me figure out what tool I need? I really appreciate it.

If it looks just like the pictures then you need a pin spanner and a hook spanner. The hook spanners are common now because they are used for the fixed gear lockring.

If you just want to take it out to upgrade it and it's going in the trash, then take off the lockring with a pipe wrench and tap the holed cup out with a punch in one of the pin spanner holes.

What he said. Once you get it out, you just need to replace it with the equivalent sealed cartridge, matching your BB shell size and spindle length.
