new bike, extra parts

Have a "new" 06 Schwinn Super Sport DBX. Had to attach the handlebars, stem, seat, FD cable, front brake cable. Getting ready to take it to the shop for a once over. It has Avid BB7 disc brakes, Tiagra shifters, and an extra set of levers on the top. I assume the parts in this bag are for the brakes. The S hook is obviously a cable organizer and the ferrule is for the end of the brake cable. I don't know if I need the two barrel things. One end is male and has red stuff on theads, the other end is female and also threaded inside. Any ideas what they are, appears obvious a cable goes through but can't find a home?

the two barrel things you have in your bag (photo ) are for v-brakes,cati brakes. and because you have disc brakes you don't need them, unless you change it to them in the furture.

Good idea, you need to start a box of "bike crap" (aka spare parts). I have one that seems to be getting bigger every year, and now I have an auxillary area (not even a box) where sits three handlebars and a fork, which won't fit in the box.

I have little pieces, parts and tools that not only are more than 30 years old, but are probably obsolete or totally inapplicable to my current stable of family bikes. Why I don't throw this stuff away, I have no idea. I'll never use 95% of it, and if I do, the parts I end up using are probably worth a few cents to a couple of bucks each to replace.
