Campy brakes question
 

I have a chronic reoccuring problem with my rear campy record brake. When I activate the lever, both brakes pull in against the rim, but when it releases only the left side moves away, the right side stays against the rim. I have checked both the attachment bolt and the lock nut and they seem tight. When I take it totally apart and put it back together it temporarily fixes the problem but I am not sure why. And before you suggest taking it to the lbs, it was at the lbs for a tune up less than a month ago, and not being an owner of multiple bikes, I hate to be without it for 2-3 day turnaround time usually found at my lbs in the middle of the season. Any thoughts?

Single or dual pivot? Can you move the arm away by hand? And if you do what is moving, the arm or the entire caliper?

The bolts could be tight but they must be tight against the frame to keep the caliper from moving off center. For example, the bolts could have bottomed out if the lock washer(s) were lost during reassembly.

You might try lubricating the pivot bolt.

Did the lube didn't change. Single pivot, yes I can move the arm away by hand and when I do the entire caliper moves.

I think your caliper is loose. You shouldn't have to take it totally apart to fix since it sounds like the mounting nut is what needs to be tightened. The nut behind the brake bridge.

Most single pull brakes have flats behind the arms that will take a thin "cone wrench" to center the calipers. Use that wrench to get them centered and then hold them in place while you tighten the mounting nut to the frame snugly.
