SKS fender cleanup

Just put SKS fenders on my touring bike and was left with about 1" of excess stainless steel rod protuding beyond the fender for each of the 8 rods holding the 2 fenders. What is the best and cleanest way to trim off this excess length - seems too thick for wirecutters, too thin for a hacksaw or jewelers saw.

A Dremel or similar rotory cutter will be best and you don't have to remove everything. It is a good idea to keep the sparks away from the tires ( and your eyes ). Most vice grips have a wire cutters built in this works but leaves a rough end to file and reqiures disassembly to get the perfect length.

I have used small boltcutter for this. File the resulting sharp tips or cover them.

Of course trimming is a way to go and is what I would have done. The other day I saw a friend's hyprid type bike w/ the SKS fenders installed by a bike shop. Instead of trimming the rods, they had apparently bent them. It's hard for me to describe, but they are bent at an angle right in the middle and actually look like they're designed that way. Her bike's not available right now otherwise I'd post a pic.
