Replacing Ergon grip clamp?

The other day, I destroyed the clamp on my left-hand GP1 Leichtbau; I overtightened the 4 mm screw and pulled the threaded anchor right out of the plastic.

So, while I'm waiting for a replacement set of grips--and a torque wrench--to arrive, I'm contemplating my set of two otherwise-fine grips that I've now rendered unuseable. The right grip appears OK, but using mismatched grips doesn't appeal to me.

This inclines me to wonder...would it be workable to install something else--say, a pair of ODI grip clamps-- over the GP1's outer sleeve to hold it in place? I've already looked for separate Ergon clamps, to no avail.

TIA,

I looked at mine. I'd drill it out , get a longer screw, and put a nylock nut on the bottom.

Thanks for the advice, dedhed. What I actually wound up doing was something much simpler.

I started by pulling the clamp completely off the grip. This exposed the hard plastic tab that sticks out of the Ergon's center sleeve, and goes into the pinch-part of the clamp.

I then took a box-cutter and pared away the tab, until I was left with just the center sleeve sticking out.

Finally, I picked up a stainless-steel hose clamp--the .75" to 1.5" size--and tightened it down onto the projecting part of the center sleeve. (I also wrapped a little cloth tape around the sleeve first, so the slots in the hose clamp's metal band wouldn't gouge the plastic.)

I took a ride on it yesterday, and this seems to be holding the left GP1 in place. Only 6 grams heavier than the Ergon clamp it replaced, too. :thumb:
