Upgrade check list - help please
 

I'm considering upgrading the crank and FD on my stock bike. I'd like to know what parts, other then the components listed below, will be needed to complete the job(s). Also, are the below listed items compatible with my bike?

This is what I have:

'08 Trek 2.1
Crankset >> Bontrager Select
Front Derailleur >> Shimano Tiagra
18 speed (2x9)

This is what I'm looking at for the upgrade:

Shimano Ultegra 6500 Crankset (39x53t) ($79.99)

or

Shimano 105 5600 Crankset (39/50T or 39/52T) ($64.99)

FD >> Shimano 105 FD-5600 Double Front Derailleur - 34.9mm ($64.99) (This item talks about "complete your upgrade to 10 speed"? - does this mean it can't be used for my 9 speed?)

or

Shimano Ultegra 10sp Front Derailluer clamp-on 34.9mm ($74.99)

you can use your tiagra FD with the new cranksets.
you can use 9sp with the 105 5600 crankset.

you will need a new matching BB with either upgrade. octalink V1 109.5mm for the 6500 ultegra and shimano outboard BB for 105 5600. english threaded for both.

We might be more helpful if you tell us what you are trying to accomplish with the upgrade.
