Hey fellas, i'm looking for some help here. I'm trying to switch my drivetrain from one bike to another, and when i got the crank bolt off i tried to get the crank arm off and it wouldn't budge...so i took a a rubber mallet and gave it a few good whacks and still nothing. I'm guessing the mechanic that helped me put the thing together didn't put enough grease in there (the BB and the crankset are only 7 months old). Also, i don't see any evident rust.

So does anybody have any helpful solutions for me?

Would help to know the year, model, style, etc of the crankset / bottom bracket, or even post a pic so the members have an idea of where to direct you.

1980 miyata 110 frame with a sugino 46t xd track crankset (yes, it's a fixed gear) and a 103 mm sugino cbb bottom bracket..both the parts are brand new as of january this year...

You need a crank pullert as stated already. There is no way to remowe this without it (without destroying something). It needs to be this thight to stay in place and not mowe (and thereby getting destroyed) when peddaling.

....and when you put it back on, you are not supposed to use grease between the crank arm and spindle (been there, done that, bought new right crank arm)

Yeah, say that if you want to give bad advice. Ever tried to remove seized cranks on BB spindles? Go educate yourself with brandts treatsie on greasing the spindle. If you're not removing and reinstalling cranks all the time, there's no reason not to grease them.

Run the bolt back in the crank, and back off from hand tight about 1/2 turn. Now, go ride your bike. It will loosen, and you can finish your upgrade.
