Chris King 1 1/8 Baseplate problem or question

Hi- I'm in the process of getting parts for a new road bike. So far frame, headset (Chris King) and a Nashbar threadless fork 1 1/8. Today I placed the baseplate on the fork and noticed it doesn't go to the base of the fork - see photo. About 3mm if I were to guess. This doesn't seem correct.

I get the impression I need a bike shop to mount this?

..learning as I go...

Thanks
Brian

OK from what I've read it needs to me mounted. Some folks use PVC pipes other metal. Is any of this making sense?

Ok never mind. Forget about it. I understand what needs to be done.

It needs a lot of force to be installed. You can use a hammer and a screwdriver, but I would have a shop install it. For future reference, check parktool.com

Crown races (aka base plates for cartridge bearing headsets) are usually a drive fit to seat them on the fork. A few cartridge bearing headsets (some FSA's for example) come with split crown races that can be installed by hand.

lube it up, knock it down. hold fork upside down, tap pvc pipe on the ground.
