Tektro CR720 - which Kool Stop pad?

I'm planning to get a set of the Tektro CR720, and I want to install Kool Stop salmon pads. I'm not sure if I need to buy the "thinline" shoe, or if there's a "slide-in" pad I can install on the cartridge that comes with the Tektros. I'd much rather use the cartridge so I wouldn't have to readjust the brakes every time I replace the pads. Does anyone know from experience if the Dura-Ace/Ultegra Kool Stop replacement pad fits in that cartridge?

the cartridges for CR-720 are the same as V-brakes.
IMO, koolstops and CR-720 don't mix well and you might as well use the stock pads.

it uses the mountainbike cartridge pads.

Why do you say that?

Yes, I'd like to know as well. I've never heard this opinion before.

the koolstops seem to induce brake squeal as opposed to no squeal at all from the stock pads with CR-720.
YMMV.

YMMV.

I've heard that about Kool Stops in general. From what I understand though it can be minimized by a proper setup, which is why I'd like to use cartridge pads so I don't have to ever fumble with them again.

The cr720s come with cartridge pads...so you can just get the pads and slide the proper koolstops in. Or for a couple more bucks..just get the koolstop techtonics (or whatever they are called) which gives you a mix of salmon/black and the posts/cartridge holders. Then you can take your stock ones and throw them in the rear.. or sell them to me. ha

I use CR720 brakes with Koolstop pads. Adjusted for toe in. No squeal.

Which cartridge/pad setup are you using?

The current CR720 uses Shimano Road cartridge pads. As for the pads, don't use the original pads, they are abrasive to rims, from my experience. Kool Stop salmon can be prone to squealing, but the black are not. This has been my experience only. I don't ride in the wet if I don't have to , so the black are my choice. They're not bad in the wet, they're just not quite as effective as the salmon.

I too use the black Kool Stop inserts in my Tektro brakes. Like Garthr, I don't have to ride in the rain.

The original pads squealed and had to be set-up carefully to avoid that. They weren't very powerful.

I then fitted the latest Shimano pads which also required careful set-up to avoid squealing, however, they had a much higher friction coefficient and worked well.

Finally, I fitted Kool Stop black pads. They are quiet, have the highest coefficient of friction and seem to be very easy on the rims. Set-up was easy and I haven't had to readjust them. I've fitted them to both my working bikes and shall use no other pads.

Never had an issue , AEO is anecdote of one , Their mechanical chops may not be adequate in problem solving.
