Alternate cable routing opinions?
Sheldon Brown [https://www.sheldonbrown.com/derailer...html#alternate] has information on alternate rear derailleur routing that allows you to use shifters that are one speed higher than your cassette. For example, 10 speed shifters could work with a 9 speed cassette with this routing.
I am in that situation now and am wondering if anyone of you have experience of tips on it. One worker at the LBS has never heard of it, and another tried it but wouldn't recommend it for anything more than casual riding.

it works ok, but once that chain starts to wear out to 12-1/24~12-1/16, the shifting gets sloppy compared to a matched cassette and shifter.

well, I would go the alternate routing route first, and then if you aren't satisfied with the results, you should go for a J-tek.
