Specialized Floor Pump --- Maintenance

I have used a Specialized Airtool Comp floor pump for approximately 3-years. About one year ago, the barrel/plunger needed to be lubricated as it was stick / slipping and loosing seal intermittently.

I used some silicone spray to "fix" the problem. However, as time has gone by the problems continue and I have to continually disassemble and spray.

What is recommended to spary on the O-ring style plunger for this pump to keep it working?

How often should one have to disassemble and spray to keep this pump working?

Is this pump good for more than 3-years of service?

I use the pump about 3 times per week.

I'd try some regular synthetic bicycle grease.

I agree with the others just regular grease. at this point you may want to see about a new 'O' ring and really clean the inside. the spray may have affected the ring somehow, and any remaining spray may adversely affect the grease.

I just took a Nashbar Red pump apart at work because it was not working. Turns out the the O-Ring had failed. The barrel and O-ring were lubricated with silicone grease, something akin to Parker Super-O-Lube. Depending on the tolerances and other variables, I wouldn't think that a spray lube would work for very long in an air pump. Petroleum based greases will breakdown/dissolve some O-rings, so I wouldn't suggest that either, unless you know for sure what the O-ring is made of.
